You're already drawn to the beauty industry because you know it's a fun career choice that allows you to express your creativity and help people; but did you know it's also a good financial move? We've put together the top reasons why a cosmetology education makes dollars and sense.
Earning Potential
In a study completed in 2007, the National Association of Cosmetology Arts & Sciences (NACCAS) reported that the average cosmetologist makes between $30,000 and $48,000 per year. $30,000 may not sound like much, but the study included cosmetologists who work part-time (a huge plus in and of itself - more on that below). The study also did not include tips. So whether you're working part-time or full-time, the NACCAS report suggests you can likely earn a base income of $30,000-$48,000 - not including tips. As with any profession, starting salaries are often lower, but you get what you put into it - the more successful you are in attracting a loyal clientele, the more you'll likely
earn.
Now, back to tips. Beauty is a personal service industry, and just like other personal service industries, tips are routine. It's not uncommon for an experienced full-time cosmetologist to earn an additional $8,000 - $15,000* a year in tips alone!
Put it all together, and a short time in school is a great investment in your future.
Flexibility One of the perks of being a licensed cosmetologist is a flexible schedule. Many cosmetologists work part-time. How does this impact you financially? If you're a parent, flexibility in your schedule gives you more control over child care expenses because you may not need full time childcare. Flexible scheduling may also allow you to work at times when guest traffic is heaviest - and more guests equate to more income for you. Beyond the financial benefits, working a flexible schedule gives you more time for your family, hobbies, vacations, and other interests.
Job Security If you're worried about job security, it may ease your mind to know that cosmetology keeps rising to the top of nationwide reports as one of the most stable, recession-proof careers today. You'll find hair salons in every city, every town, and every neighborhood - and those salons need stylists.
It All Adds Up Here's a quick snapshot of the facts: Average earnings for cosmetologists range from $30,000-$48,000 - not a bad starting point! Tips can easily earn you another $8,000 or more each year if you work full-time. You'll be able to do something you love for a living and still have time for the other things you love too. You're very unlikely to be out of work. Increased income potential doing something you love, job flexibility, and outstanding job security...what else could you ask for?

Spring Salon Fairs Blow Through
The spring Salon Fairs have just blown through Regency's campuses like a tornado of beauty and creativity! Twice a year, all of our campuses crank up the volume for these fun-filled events that really give our students the chance to step outside the box and let their imaginations run wild! One of our proud campuses, Chattanooga, submitted all of the following information and photos from their first-ever Salon Fair. Thank you Chattanooga - nice job! Your excitement shows through, and we're so proud of all of you!
Chattanooga Salon Fair Submitted by the students and staff of Chattanooga
Chattanooga's first Salon Fair was a huge success! Our students chose two creative themes around which to create complete, head-to-toe looks on models for a friendly competition. The themes were "Red Carpet/Runway" and "Nature Inspired/Fantasy". Students who chose the Red Carpet category created classic and current model looks that were inspired by stars ranging from Marilyn Monroe to Lindsay Lohan. The students who chose the Nature Inspired/Fantasy category incorporated various animals and earthy elements into their models, such as a White Snow Owl and even a Starry Night.

The décor for the event was as glamorous as the models themselves. Chattanooga's Performance Floor was transformed into a scene right out of a dream with trees hanging from the ceiling and butterflies made out of Mardi-Gras masks in every hue. The models were stunning as they walked the Red Carpet runway into the judging area. We had an incredible turnout and positive comments from guests and Judges alike. Salons in attendance were Hair Benders International, Epiphany Salon and Day Spa, In the Buff Salon and Day Spa, A Better You, Studio 59, Salon Centric (L'Oreal), Smart Style Family Hair Salon,
Creative Concepts Hair Salon, MasterCuts, Supercuts, Great Clips, and Essentially You. The students really enjoyed themselves and worked together to create a remarkable event that everyone was proud to participate in!

It's All About the Kit
If you've been thinking about coming to Regency, you've undoubtedly heard about the amazing kit that our students receive on their first day! So, what's the deal with the kit? Why all the fuss? For people who aren't passionate about beauty, it probably looks like a bunch of random "stuff" - but for those of us who love cosmetology, it's like a treasure chest that holds the keys to a beautiful future. These are the cool tools of the trade, and when you first pick them up, your dreams of a future in beauty suddenly become a reality.
At Regency, our kit is designed to give you everything you'll need while you're in school and even in your first salon job*: shears, irons, makeup brushes, nail and skin care supplies, hair brushes, combs, and clippers are just a few of the things every Regency student receives on their first day of school. Every student also gets five mannequins with hair of different textures to practice on. It's our way of making sure you're prepared for any type of client that walks in the door!
It's enough to make you giddy! And it's easy to get your hands on one - all you have to do is become a Regency student. |

*Wondering about our math? We asked a number of cosmetologists how much they make in tips per haircut. They responded with a range of $4-$7.50. If you do one haircut per hour for a full working year of 2,000 hours, that works out to $8,000-$15,000 per year.
