The STARs speak out
What does it take to become a STAR®
student at Regency? Passion and determination to succeed. This year, 108 Regency students received an all-expense paid trip to America’s Beauty Show in Chicago. 108! That’s not just a few. For these two students, the trip to America’s Beauty Show came within weeks of their graduation dates - the ultimate culmination of their Regency experience and a perfect sendoff into the world of cosmetology!

Susan started at Regency in September 2008. Formerly in the military, Susan always dreamed of being a cosmetologist. The first woman in Minnesota to be on an aircraft carrier, Susan is no stranger to success…so it was no surprise that she earned a free trip to America’s Beauty Show.
Susan’s experience at America’s Beauty Show was “fabulous!” Attending the show gave her a much broader perspective on the cosmetology industry and where a cosmetology career can take you. The trip fueled her excitement and gave her more ambitious goals to set her sights on. She said the products, techniques, and overall experience was so much bigger than anything she ever could have experienced in the classroom. To see so many professionals who were so excited about their careers and to see such a glamorous side of cosmetology was an amazing experience for her.
The STAR trip was even better than Susan expected! She loved the great deals she found on supplies and products and couldn’t believe the goodie bags she got to bring home with her! Other highlights of her trip were the Tigi and Logics shows, hearing Redken 5th Avenue’s Ann Mincey speak and getting a copy of her book, and seeing the Andis Company’s Ivan Zoot
perform (she stood up on stage with him and got his autograph!).
Susan earned her trip by aggressively marketing herself to guests, family, friends, and people from her church. She sent emails out asking everyone to come in for services and her efforts paid off! Her advice to Regency students? “Take advantage of the STAR Program and work hard! You’ll get prizes and rewards just for doing what you’re supposed to do anywhere!”
Susan’s Regency experience has been extremely rewarding. She says the educators are “fabulous” and she has a goal of returning to Regency as an educator. When asked for her final comments, Susan replied “I’ll be back!” We certainly hope so.

Ruby started at Regency in March 2008 as a part-time student who later switched to full-time. At the STAR reception at America’s Beauty Show, Ruby received an award for two straight months of 100% cumulative attendance.
Besides the amazing shopping opportunities at America’s Beauty Show, highlights of Ruby’s trip were the Tigi show where they demonstrated new products and techniques, meeting Redken 5th Avenue’s Ann Mincey and hearing her speak, and meeting the Andis Company’s Ivan Zoot
for the third time. Ruby was also able to network with some of who’s who in the industry and make contacts with salon owners and industry peers.
When asked about her Regency experience, Ruby replied, “School is awesome! It’s like coming to work everyday, not a school.” Ruby would recommend Regency Beauty Institute to anybody who’s interested in a cosmetology career. She says that Regency’s STAR Program is “Amazing!” because it encourages healthy competition and has taught her and her fellow students real-world skills they need to be successful in the salon environment.
How did Ruby earn the free trip? She recruited all her friends and family to come in for services and she focused on retailing until she reached her goal. She said it is hard work to earn the trip, but if you set your mind to it, it is definitely achievable.
