Ivan Zoot

ClipperGuy Says...

Ivan Zoot, Director of Education for the Andis Company, was on hand at America’s Beauty Show to provide Regency’s STAR® students with a fast-paced, high energy clipper cut presentation. With over 20 years of experience, Ivan (affectionately known as “ClipperGuy”) has written four books and holds three world records: the fastest haircut, the most haircuts in one hour, and the most haircuts in 24 hours.

Ivan is a former salon owner who got his start with the Andis Company as an independent contractor. Eventually, his passion for clipper cutting (and the Andis Company specifically) led to a full-time position. Originally a licensed cosmetologist, Ivan later returned to school to obtain his barber’s license as well. We had a chance to talk with Ivan about hair, his career, and of course…Regency’s STAR program! Here’s what Ivan had to say:

Q: What’s going on in men’s hair fashion these days?

ClipperGuy Says: One of the biggest trends in Europe right now is the “low-hawk”. A more committed version of the “faux-hawk”, the low-hawk is a subtly blended short haircut with a peak actually sculpted (cut) into the hair. Variations include spirals, curves and asymmetrical sculpted lines. Also, what’s old is new again: designs shaved into men’s haircuts reminiscent of the 1980’s are back! Particularly challenging and fun: flames, puzzle pieces in varying degrees of shading, and tribal designs. ClipperGuy

Q: Can you tell us what impresses you about the STAR Program?

ClipperGuy Says: “The fact that the requirements are so similar to the expectations of a working professional... the STAR Program is a great learning tool that models the real life of salon life. It’s an impressive program and a talented group of students with much to be proud of... STAR students are well on their way to bright and beautiful careers!”

Q: Is there any advice you could give Regency students?

ClipperGuy Says: "Make the most of the amazing opportunity that time in school/clinic represents before the realities of salon life kick in. Learn now!"
