Why cosmetology?

Angel Drake started as a model and broadcast journalist when she was a college student in her native Philippines. She decided to move to the United States to finish her education but was surprised when she learned that she couldn’t transfer her credits from the Philippines. Her husband encouraged her to go to cosmetology school. “I’d always loved hair and makeup, so I looked into Regency.” Angel visited the Southwest Houston campus and decided to enroll.

Why she specializes in color:

Angel says that she was surprised when she took first place at a Salon Fair for her work in color. Then meeting Mark Debolt, a Wella platform artist, solidified her love of color. “Mark really inspired me to ‘dream of colors’. Now I'm dreaming and living in colors!”

What she liked best about her education at Regency:

Angel says the best part about going to school at Regency was getting to meet new people and learn about new cultures. “It's hard going to school full time and having kids but wonderful people at the campus made me look forward to every day. Even though we’re all different in many ways, we all have the same passion which is beautifying people.”

What it was like going to 2012 Trend Vision finals:

When Angel got the call from Wella’s Chantelle Martineau telling her that she was a finalist, she was thrilled! “I couldn’t believe it! There are so many talented people and they chose me!” Angel, her model, and her assistant set off for Los Angeles to compete in the student category with 4 other students from the United States and Puerto Rico. “The best part was meeting so many people,” Angel says. “I met people I consider my idols!” She worked hard and presented a stunning look. Although she didn’t win the honor of competing in the international finals, Angel felt truly grateful to be a part of such an amazing group of talented stylists.

Her advice to Regency students:

“Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you’ve imagined. If you can dream it, you can do it!”
