Formal Updo’s and Braids

Definition:
Updo’s and braids, also called dresswork, are hair styling techniques that produce temporary changes to the hair. Both updo’s and braids can be either simple or intricate.
  • Updo’s refer to hairstyles that arrange the hair, rather than allowing it to fall freely. This can be through the use of fasteners or teasing, wrapping or twisting. Examples of simple updo hairstyles include buns and ponytails. More elaborate updos include the French twist.
  • Braiding creates hairstyles by intertwining strands of hair with one another. Methods of braiding include twining, pleating, plating, weaving and interlocking. Examples of hairstyles that are done via braiding include French braids and cornrows.
